Age of Conversation 3 Author Interview #17: Mike Maddaloni

Another Age of Conversation 3 author, Mike Maddaloni…

Q1: Give us a brief overview of what you wrote about.

A1: I took the category “Getting to Work” literally and talked about my unique commute to work.  Perhaps I took it too literally, but when you take into consideration all time and planning which goes into getting to work, your commute is an important time of the day.
Q2: What drew you to the Age of Conversation project?

A2: I have known Gavin for a few years, as he’s a friend of a friend, thus the around the world connection.  I missed the deadlines on getting into the first 2 AOC’s, and I jumped on it this time.  The previous 2 were extremely unique publications, crowdsourced before the term came into vogue.
Q3: What aspect of marketing / Social Media is being overblown right now?

A3: The hype.  It’s almost like, “if you’re not on Foursquare you are going to die!”  As a small business owner who works with others, I try to educate and expand the horizons of my clients, including the reality and opportunity of social media.  There are many others who take a practical approach to social media, and those are the people I listen to, learn from, engage with and highly respect.
Q4: Where are the real opportunities in marketing / Social Media right now?

A4: Two areas I am interested in are QR codes and mobile Web.  QR codes are appearing more and more in the US and there’s plenty of opportunity in display advertising and merchandising to use them.  The mobile Web goes beyond apps, and extending one’s current Web site and Web functionality in a mobile-friendly format.
Q5: Predictions are cliche, instead, tell me one thing you are going to make happen this year?

A5: I am going to make my clients a lot of money this year.  It’s what I say every year, and why wouldn’t I?!

Mike Maddaloni is the president and founder of Dunkirk Systems, LLC  - and has over 20 years of experience in high technology, most of it as a consultant.
